Nik Hetherbrook (She/Her/Hers) | Counsellor and Psychosexual Therapist

A little about me

I am an integrative counsellor and psychosexual therapist.

What does that mean?

I started as a Humanistic Counsellor back in 2019 and undertook some further training so I could offer my clients a more tailored approach (integrating different interventions into my existing model).
My work in specialist centres made me realise that often people did not have a safe place to discuss sex - whether they were experiencing disruptions to their sexual functioning, navigating sexual confidence, wanting to build a better understanding of or normalise their sexual self, or rebuild a relationship with sex following sexual assault.
As a result, in 2024 I enrolled on an MSc in Contemporary Psychosexual Therapy which I have now completed.

So, do I have to talk about sex?

Nope, not at all.
My foundations are still deeply rooted in humanistic values which means I am here to meet you where you are, with what you wish to bring to your sessions.
I believe you have a right to a space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings without judgement; with someone who will endeavour to see your perspective.

I bring a passionate but calm, and slightly quirky presence to my work, incorporating humour where appropriate.
I am queer and disabled and whilst I don't specialise in these areas, I have a lived experience of what it is like to be othered in a heteronormative world and manage chronic pain and mobility issues in a system that is still not disability-friendly.
